Bergen County’s United Way and the PPE Motherload

A few months back, BCUW President Tom Toronto asked ABCD if our agencies could use more PPE to which we replied, “Yes. And 100,000 masks wouldn’t be enough.,” not to put too fine a point on it. In early January ABCD received a call on behalf of BCUW to report that they expected to receive a shipment of PPE in which over 350,000 masks could be designated to ABCD if we were interested — ABCD has learned during this pandemic to say yes to any donated PPE and figure out the logistics later.

As a result, all members of ABCD received donated PPE. Our colleagues ARCNJ, NJACP and NJAMHAA also received PPE supplies.

ABCD wants to thank Tom Toronto and Bergen County’s United Way for their continued generosity to those we serve and to those who serve them. Special thanks to Diane Riley, Executive Director of the Supportive Housing Association of NJ (SHANJ) for coordinating the rollout. Finally, we can’t thank enough ABCD Board members, Steve Setteducati, CEO of New Concepts for Living, and Dr. Kendell Sprott, President and CEO of Matheny Medical and Education Center, who helped us to “figure out the logistics.” Specifically, Adam Fishman Associate Executive Director of New Concepts for Living for coordinating his staff and trucks for the pick-up of 280 cartons of PPE and to and George Doumar of Matheny for distributing the PPE to ABCD membership.
